Re: Fan Art

Eh, it's a matter of preference. A similar point was raised in the HD texture pack thread. I find that version you linked a bit too bright and colorful. You say its dark, but why should it be particularly bright? The scene's composition doesn't seem to suggest that; seems like it's supposed to be ni...

Re: Fan Art

This is not new content by any means, but it still might be of use to someone: I took the OOTF promotional poster, and edited it down to a wallpaper form. Whitespace trimmed out, rescaled, and also mildly color corrected. (is it just me, or does the original look kinda faded, or washed out?) Here, h...

Re: Questions regarding the OOTF editor

Well, that would certainly be one way to do it. But given that there are only a couple tens of entries to change, I think I'd long be done changing them by hand before I could even get off the ground (pardon the pun) attempting to write a program for that. Likewise, at work I don't waste time creati...

Re: If anyone's interested, this is the kind of designing I get paid to do

The company I work at does sell a very light duty benchtop mini-mill . Last time I asked, the price was roughly $12-15k, depending on the options. Yes, we do sell worldwide. You mention 200 cases. At that quantity, it'd cost roughly as much to buy a mini-mill, as it would to just outsource the machi...

Re: If anyone's interested, this is the kind of designing I get paid to do

What you see above isn't even remotely close to being complete - and most likely it never will be, because the whole project got dropped. Designing it to that point took roughly a hundred hours, most of which was spent on preliminary design and validation. Actually creating the model shown here only...

If anyone's interested, this is the kind of designing I get paid to do

I think I've already mentioned that I'm an engineer at a major manufacturer of CNC machines. A substantial part of my work involves designing machines/parts in SolidWorks (3D CAD software). Now, obviously I can't show these particular designs here, for reasons of IP and trade secrets - but I also ha...

Re: Drakan Remake by YanGez93

here would be another way making Drakan Remake in just Riot Engine with new/improved models, music, sounds etc. Hmm, seems like a dead end to me. The engine is quite dated, doesn't support a lot of useful features, and appears to have serious performance issues. Ah, and also the editor is kinda bro...

Re: Drakan Remake by YanGez93

Hi there, and welcome :D Hmm, "big" isn't quite the word I'd use; I've been here about a month, and only a few of our members were active during that time. Last time I asked, YanGez isn't accepting any donations... not yet , at least. But in the future, who knows  As you can see, we're in a bi...

Questions regarding the OOTF editor

Recently I've been messing around with the OOTF editing tools. It was certainly enlightening, in many ways - but at the same time, also raised a few questions of its own: 1. How long is the engine's "length unit", anyway? A quick 1st order estimate puts it at around 3 meters. Or, in pagan units, rou...

Re: Jump attack input (skullsplitter) not working?

Eh, I don't care much for very modern/recent games, anyway. Both because of the modern developers' attitude problem (PC ports of console games? Singleplayer-as-an-afterthought? No save-anywhere functionality, on a friggin PC no less, thus needlessly wasting my precious time reloading from some arbit...

Re: The sun in Drakan

With component output which supports progressive scanning the game might render at the full 640x480 / 720x576 Wait, but wouldn't it then be rendering @ 30/25FPS instead, because of hardware limitations? It is rendering twice as many pixels per frame, after all... NB, you also got your rows and colu...

Re: Jump attack input (skullsplitter) not working?

As for why allow these things to be disabled, troubleshooting. Yep. I found a couple reports in the meantime; some people had problems with modern games when the "GX" option was (needlessly) turned on. Go figure... So, since you had XP compatibility in mind, you must have settled for an older graph...

Re: The sun in Drakan

Even on modern hardware the game runs like a slideshow when increasing draw distance to the maximum and disabling the fog. Guess they didn't know that at the time but the fog seems to have been put there to hide the distant pop-up graphics and increase the framerate. Later versions of the riot engi...

Re: Jump attack input (skullsplitter) not working?

You can tell if Drakan was able to initialize EAX successfully if the checkbox for EAX stays checked after you enable it once Ok, cool. I was always wondering why it would never stay on when using the integrated Realtek soundchip. Can't test it as of right now, for various reasons, but I have other...

Re: Drakan Remake by YanGez93

Hm, you're right. My bad, I wasn't paying attention.

Wait... doesn't it mean that they effectively republished the entire IP of another game, and got away with it?
