I did find a tab with sliders on to adjust the gamma/brightness/contrast and that helps. :D
That's the tab I meant, but I typed alpha instead of gamma, too many late nights... :D

Have you tried adjusting the alpha in the OpenGL settings? you can access them in the startup menu, when selecting the video render .dll

Yeah, it's good to have an alternative rendering option. What I like about using 3Dfx is that the menu and in-game F1 menus and text are all displayed at 800x600, so they're nice and big on screen (playing at 2560x1600 with OpenGL makes the 256x256 menus look tiny). Okay I bought it off of GOG. It comes installed with the OpenGL raster. Strangely, it runs with 3DFX selected (Voodoo 1-2; Voodoo 3 has the black text issue), even displaying the 3DFX logo at startup. Max resolution in this mode is 800 x 600, though. For anyone who has downloaded this version, could you please check what video options are available in the 'setup' menu?
I'm wondering if it ships with rOpenGL as the default renderer, or if GoG somehow managed to get a new directX.dll compiled (which would be very interesting).
