OpenGL Fog fix Mod

Postby Sir Random » Sat Feb 13, 2010 5:09 pm

Many people have posted problems with the fog when playing with rOpenGL, so I've made a mod to fix the fog problems in
Fortress of Tel Halaf, Gorge of Orlok, Oasis of Nejeb, Forge of Xathra, and Abyss.

Fogfix:
http://daniel.brayforum.com/blademods/

I've only reduced the density of problem atmospheres, and the other atmospheres are untouched.

Notes:
Tel Halaf has darkish lighting, but a bright white dome, so without the atmosphere there's a sharp contrast between walls and sky. It doesn't look right to me, and I think a different (twilight) dome would look much more natural. I'll experiment with other domes and see how they look.

The Abyss is still quite dark for the final battle, but this is because of the sector lighting, not atmosphere.

If any other maps are causing fog problems, post about it here and I'll add it to the mod.

EDIT\
I've added The Forge of Xathra, with reduced red fog. I set the fog density at 0.03 which is clear enough to see through, but still has the hot and smokey feel.

yee I meet that Halaf thing to, I gived the Prospero made background about the snowmountains which he used by Fugitive III, and I san that the walls got thin milk on the edges [:D]

it would be cool to edit the basic levels weather look like, with blue sky or evil dark red skies [:D] but the most modders said its isnt such easy [:(]

It's not too difficult. Chhanging the Atmospheres is easy enough as they tend to be grouped - ext, int, etc. So you can edit one and change all the external sectors without affecting the inside ones. Editing the Ambient lighting is more difficult as you need to select sectors and change them one by one... RAS maps have between about 1200 and 2000 sectors.

I did a Gladiator map which is Nemrut in a night-time setting. (It's on my site for d/l if anyone wants it. If you play the Ascension map in Gladiator, the lighting actually adjusts to the local time. Play at night and it should be dark. [;)]

you forgot about the red fog in Dal `s Tower, on top, before Meskalamdug... really, bad for the view.

Hi,
the FogFix worked well, but at Gorge of Orlok there is still fog.
Although it´s playable i wonder if this is "wanted fog" or if this level should be completly without fog.
Is it possible to remove the fog entirely?

http://www.mediafire.com/download.php?7ant4cvcen5kuci

Instruction:

1. Unzip archive and run *.exe-file
2. Click upper button and use standard method to open *.bw-file you want to crack. In case of Orlok it is "Directory of the Game/Maps/Orlok_M10/defile.bw"
3. Click lower button
4. Remove files "Orlok_M10/pak/BODPak.dat" and "Orlok_M10/pak/pf.pak"
5. Launch Blade and enjoy this stuff:

Doesn´t work either.
At both mediafire links my Virus scanner warns me about a trojan.
The downloaded files are only 1.39kB big. The file should be 2.39kB big.
Either it is a false Virus Alarm or the mediafire-website or your files are infected.

sgi1981's program is designed to open and edit other files, so it will be detected as a potential trojan by anti-virus software (like game trainers). Just ignore the virus warning, or disable your av for the download.

OK, i have the file now.
Next problem: i can´t read the text on the buttons or in the left part of the programm.
I think on my system (german) is not the right font installed.
I can choose the right folder with its defile.bw, but it doesn´t show the files in it.
Isn´t there another programm able to open the xxxxx.bw files?
