still stuck on ravenshold

that stupid combination thing is annoying me....i aimed my compass south then entered the combination...then did the rest...and the gate still wont open. if my pointer is aiming down, does that mean im facing north? its all too confusing, a simple up-left-right-down combo would be much simplier.

i had troble with it to. right now i am going to bed but tommorow i will play the game and give up down left right instrucktions. I can make it easier once i play that part of the game.
