drakan vs drakan:TAG?

Post by bodfan »

Both are from Surreal but the first is for PC and the second is for PS2. What's the reason behind it? [8D]

Who knows?

Aside from not being able to extract the level files with the level editor (yes, I tried it), there is no difference between them.

The only diff is I had to get a PS2 to play one.

The reason behind it is this:

1. Surreal develops Drakan as a PC title for Psygnosis Games
2. Surreal begins development for Drakan 2 as a PC title
3. Sony buys Psygnosis Games
4. Sony says "We only support Sony platforms"
5. Surreal has to restart Drakan 2 as a PS2 title.

6. Midway buys Surreal as an exclusive in house developer
7. Rumour has it that Surreal had ideas for a Drakan 3 if Sony wanted it making. This is scrapped.
8. Drakan rights remain with Sony, Drakan 3 will probably never see the light of day. Drakan: TAG will not get a PC conversion.

Between the two drakans, which one you like better?

I expect I'll be in the minority, here... but I like Drakan: The Ancients' Gates the best.

I thought both games were good & both have their good and bad points but overall, I'm agreeing with Outlaw and prefer TAG as it was a much more in depth game. I hate the texturing system used in TAG and the new look Arokh though, I think it would have been better if they had used the same 'look' as OOTF but with more detail, polygons etc.
The music in OOTF was better though and set the mood for the game well. This did not seem to work as well in TAG even though it had dynamic music although there are one or two exceptions e.g the Andrellian Isles music.

I prefer the Arokh in the first version.

He has distinctive features and coloration.

In the next one, he's just another red dragon.

I actually enjoyed TAG slightly more as well (with the exception of minor details here and there), but no MP in TAG was very heartbreaking for me when it came out.

I'm finishing BoD and start to play drakans now ( just got the S-video cable ). So far no complaint for both games except the beginning of DOFTF is kind of dark. TAG's rpg type will give the game more depth, no doubt. :)
