Try altering the gamma correction. This area is supposed to be dark though.

I find alot of games, have dark areas with bad things hiding there!

I like turning my monitors brightness up, so that you can see.

Would I sound excessively sarcastic if I said "Because it's at night time" ?

I've never really had a problem with drakan's lighting unless I've got the sun shining on my monitor (which I block out with thick curtains). The part upto the temple (well up until you meet Arokh really) is actually my favourite part of the game. I love the atmosphere it generates.

I was originally going to say exactly that. Yes, it is night and it is supposed to be dark but however adjusting the gamma can help if you are playing the game in a bright room. However as Claxon says, it's best to play in a darkened room to get the best atmosphere especially with a good surround sound card & speakers.

And for that added level of realism... have a friend poke you with a needle ever time you get injured! :)
