Hey there:)
First of: Amazing that theres still some folks playing this amazing game... aaah the childhood memories!

Second: I DID play Drakan in Multiplayer quite a few years ago... and I remember the hassle it was with the GameSpy and stuff like that. Do you still need that?

Third: Im totally in for those fixed dates you guys will boot up the server. Count me in.

Have a nice night everybody

Hi :D

DragonSlayer wrote: the hassle it was with the GameSpy and stuff like that. Do you still need that?
No. Only 4 things are needed to play now:
  • Other people to play with :D
  • UCyborg's "Drakan Gold Pack Enhanced" (link in the OP), which comes pre-patched to the newest(*) version, and has all the fan-made levels already installed,
  • Specifying the server IP and port (apparently not needed if the game server successfully registers with one or more master server(s)).
  • Depending on your firewall/router setup, you might also need to unblock the game ports and/or the game executable.
(*): What's really important here, is that all the players are running the exact same patch version as the server.

Of course it's possible to manually patch the original game to the newest AiO patch version, instead of using the Gold Pack - but I don't recommend that unless you know exactly what you're doing; it's easy to accidentally mess something up and break the patch altogether.
On the other hand, the Gold Pack is about as foolproof as it can get

PS: If I can successfully prod my ISP to set me up with port forwarding on their end, I'm planning to run a semi-permanent dedicated server on some older hardware which is otherwise just gathering dust on a shelf. 8)

Now that would be amazing!

Just played through Drakan in 2 sessions on Too Hard... not braggin. I just dont seem to remember it actually being that easy? Way too many potions and weapons:D. Yet still some great great fun!

So I Just have to add the IP directly in the ingame Drakan Multiplayer layout? Im a little confused there, because I did just that yesterday and I saw nothing... but probably because your server isnt running?

Anyway: Thanks for the help.
I am very much looking forward to it

Hmm, now they're just dragging their feet. I'll have to call them if they don't reply by tomorrow.

DragonSlayer wrote: I just dont seem to remember it actually being that easy?
Yeah, it is relatively easy, once you figure out how to approach the various enemies. Especially since their AI isn't too bright :)
But of course just running up and mashing "attack" at the enemies would instead result in a hasty depletion of all these potions

And Arokh's instakill flame breath makes airborne enemies a complete joke. It's like the classic RPG "touch of death" spell

Adding the IP manually isn't needed if the host is online and set up to register with a functioning master server - in that case, it should show up in the list automatically after a couple of seconds. Clicking "refresh" might also be required, but I haven't tested that yet.
AT's server probably wasn't online back then, though.

Allrighty. Just checked it. The server is being foun:)

Thanks for the instructions.

PS: Yeah I allways wondered, why they bothered to add other elements for Arokhs breath, while they're all sh**... Magma works out, yet still the firebreath killed Herons Dragon in like 2 seconds... weird

I actually find the other elements quite fun to use. Especially ice - it's quite cool 8)
You should really play the multiplayer a bunch, and then you'll see what I mean :D

The flame breath being an instakill is more or less a bug, which stems from the engine's technical limitations.
Which is also one of the reasons why it isn't available in multiplayer; it's way too OP :D

Oh yeah, and it's also hilarious if you manage to bring Arokh to the first phase of the final boss (which isn't normally supposed to happen!) by clipping out of bounds. Arokh can fry him to a crisp in the blink of an eye
(and it causes the ending to be glitched out, too)

You know what would be a treat? If we got to play the duel map I made a few years ago. I think it was a frozen river with a land arch going over the top (where you duel).

Well, I'm open for suggestions as to the level list for my server (which I should be able to host in a few days).

Because that will be running more or less unattended, I figure that the list should have good variety (as in, no several consecutive levels of the same type), and there should also be a reasonable time limit - say, 15-20 minutes.

I've set mine up to do two or three air, followed by two or three ground and a few QOD maps thrown in at random. Time limit I have set to 30 mins.

As for Mage150's level I'll include that as well

Do you think a Drakan:OOTF multiplayer tournament would be a good idea?

Yeah. Problem is people seem to have lost interest

Yes, good idea. Recently there weren't quite much Drakan multiplayer matches, cool to be able to play even just for fun, and even without tournaments. In my case, I would like to make a MP map very much, but unfortunately there are not too many active players so I don't see purposes to make such a map. Check our Drakan Discord channel, for sure there will be opportunities to play :)

Drakan turns 20 in just 8 days!
What can be a better occasion to celebrate with a multiplayer match than this? :D
