It happened again

Post by chicken stomper »

Ok so now it's really bugging me. I posted earlier about a weird symbol that appears when fighting the trogs in Shadowmire. I was playing the game last night and it happened again in the tundra section while pursuing the Visionary Amethyst Quest.

It's the letter "V" in a graphic jagged yellow and red with a small sub number that appeared when battling the laser stone guys. When it happened I was so fixated on the symbol that Rynn got killed. It was the letter V with a sum number 4 (small 4 at the bottom left of the "V"). When I restated again from that point (I had just saved) it appeared again briefly but now with the sub number 3-- and then, just like that, :?: :?: it was gone.

I've been playing though since then and have finished the Shiverbane Quest and it has not happened again.

What the hell is this???? :?: :?: I'm obsessed with knowing what this is. I have unlocked, found, done, just about everything in this game throughout the years, but this is still a mystery to me.

Thank you for the more specific description.
Cool that it happens for you pretty consistently.
I wonder whether it's a later copy, or if the dif is slimline PS2 instead of the older fatboys? Are you playing on a backwards compatible PS3 or on a PS2?

I wonder if an emulator on a computer would throw different glitches at you?

So many and varied glitches! I've played D:TAG more than 150 times, and I still get new things occasionally.
Yours is ANOTHER new one, and I kinda wish I could see it.
Have you ever seen the sub numbers at any other values than 4 and 3?

Not that I recall. It usually happens so fast I can't study it for long. I'm playing the game on an old PS2. I actually bought another PS2 (tucked away still in the box) when they were going out and Sony was moving on to PS3. I have so many cool PS2 games I didn't want to be left without an original platform on which to play them. Thanks for the response. Maybe someday we will be able to uncover just what the heck this is and what it means. :?

to add: I was so lucky with this game. I had just bought the PS2 and was looking for my first games to play. I saw this as Best Buy years ago (2005-2006) and thought it looked cool. What a masterpiece. I was spoiled for any other games after playing Drakan. I thought PS2 was the greatest not knowing what a disappointment so many other PS2 offerings would be (and were).

This game is always a joy to play. Just great.

Cheers, and keep me posted on this "V" thingie...

I have played this game 3 times, twice on my old 'fat boy' PS2 and the third via an emulator (PCSX2) on my PC and I don't remember it however I just may not have noticed. Maybe its a health hits remaining indicator that was originally intended to be in the game but it was cut and replaced by the ring that changes colour instead?

Ahh. That's a good possibility-- Especially since it dropped from sub number 4 to sub number 3 right after Rynn was killed and I started up at the same place again. " Leftover " code, maybe. I did buy the game in about 2004 which is about 2 years after the date on the copyright on the start up screen -- so I'm guessing it's a later or even the latest version.

Thanks.

If I'm wrong, sorry, but... I think I figured out what you were seeing.
There's an indicator when your equipped weapon is about to break. It starts at 5 and shows up counting down your hits to broken. Sword or bow - they both show the same thing.

Since you get a couple of used weapons in the Shadowmire, that may be what you were seeing.
It just occurred to me while re-reading this thread.

Maybe… I thought that the "broken weapon" symbol was kinda what I saw but then I remember that symbol as an actual red and yellow sword that was shown as "broken" in half. This was definitely a "V" with a sub number. Maybe I recall it wrong(?) Maybe the "V" symbol is a warning that the weapon is almost used up but the weapon I was using was one that I had brought with me to Shadowmire and it was not close to being used up (bow with plenty of arrows left)

Ok, not to beat a dead horse here, but, I did recently run a weapon out of arrows and got the "broken sword" symbol and yes there was a sub number that descended down as I shot my last arrow. It was definitely not what I saw earlier in the game. That was without a doubt a "V" with a sub number that shortly disappeared while I was still engaged in fighting an opponent-- no count down to a broken or used up weapon.

FWIW, Cheers
